Sean's Costa Rican Bean Dip Recipe

This recipe using primarily Costa Rican ingredients -- one that I invented on a whim -- was absolutely devoured by friends and family at a recent party.

I call it Sean's Costa Rican Bean Dip, but it is so much more than just some bland, boring old bean dip found at most parties.

It is extremely easy to make and inexpensive as well. I made mine with a unique jacko-lantern twist that would make it perfect for upcoming Halloween parties!

Here's what you need:
  • Two (2) packages of Lizano Frijoles Rojo (red beans with Lizano sauce)

  • Three (3) Tablespoons of Salsa Lizano

  • 1/2 bottle of Lizano Chilero

  • 1 package of Naturas Ranchera sauce
*SHAMELESS PLUG: All of the above can be purchased at CostaRicaProducts.com.

  • Three (3) Tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese

  • 1/2 onion, chopped

  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro

  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or monterey jack)

  • 1 cup sour cream

OK, now here's what to do. Don't worry, it only takes about 5 minutes to make. No kidding.

Mix the following in a bowl: Frijoles Rojo, Lizano Salsa, Lizano Chilero, Naturas Ranchera, Parmesan, and sour cream.

Top mixture with shredded cheese and onions. Microwave until cheese is fully melted (or bake in an oven). Top with cilantro and serve with tortilla chips or white corn tortillas. Yum!

To get creative and make mine festive for Halloween, I simply made the eyes and lips with Lizano Chilero, the nose with Lizano Salsa, the teeth with chopped onions, and the hair with chopped cilantro!
